This woman is mixing sticky rice with spices to make into a rice cake.

The next step is pounding it over and over with this large wooden stick. The lady stays there to get the dough off of the bottom of the stick each time.

They even let us try! Here's Jeremy pounding the rice.

Then the ladies shape the rice into small cakes to be toasted. We ate some of the dough-it tastes just like American rice cakes, but has the texture of bread dough.

It almost looks like hamburger meat!

Then lunch was served! On each plate is a portion of regular sticky rice and a portion of black sticky rice. Both were cooked in bamboo, but the white sticky rice was in a banana leaf. The black sticky rice was directly in the bamboo and still had some bamboo stuck to it. That's okay; you can eat the bamboo. (We did!)
