Last Monday of the semester!!
Today is officially the last Monday of the fall semester at Grace!! Next Monday is the King's birthday, which is Father's Day in Thailand and a huge celebration. The following Monday is Constitution Day. I'm not exactly sure what that's celebrating, but we get the day off, so I'm not complaining. So we're down to this week and next week of regular classes, then a week of final exams, which I don't have to give! We're beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, which is both good (we're gonna make it!) and bad (we'll never finish!) at the same time.
On the bright side, if you look hard, you can find hints of Christmas around here. Being a very predominantly Buddhist country, Thais don't celebrate Christmas themselves. But they have a large farang population in Chiang Mai, and have figured out that the farangs will buy Christmas decorations and come shop. We almost get the sense that they want to put on Christmas for us while we are here. So there are a few places with a string of garland, and some sickly looking fake trees for sale at the store. We've been playing Christmas music in the car. But it's still almost 90 degrees out, people are walking around in shorts, and there are palm trees and tropical fruits everywhere. So I kind of feel like it's July, and we're all sort of playing like it's Christmas time. It's odd. But after a few weeks of this, I think I might start to believe it's really Christmas!
