There are stop signs in Thailand, although much fewer. This is just past the guard gate, waiting to turn onto the main road-the Canal Road.

It's called the Canal road because in the middle, between those cement barriers, is a canal. Usually there is overflow from the rivers here, but it's currently under construction in several places.

Here we are coming up to our intersection, the Ring Road, so named because it makes a ring around downtown Chiang Mai. None of the roads here have official or posted names, but this is what people commonly refer to them as.

After a short jaunt, we turn onto a small side road. This cuts between another mubaan (gated community) and the main road, and goes right to school.

There are many blind turns like this, and it's not unusual for a motorcycle or another car to come whipping around the bend.
